El Doradillo Beach See map

The beach El Doradillo is a paradise near Puerto Madryn where you can spot the southern right whales at a few meters from the coast. An unforgettable and unique experience to live offers this beach of 3 km wide, between Punta Arco and Cerro Prismático over 25 km. 

Hundreds of tourists sit day after day, watching the whales.

Because of its ecological and tourist potential it was decided to make it Protected Area to perform the appropriate actions to conserve nature. Therefore, in the year 2001 was established as "Landscape and seascape protected" by the Municipal Ordinance N° 4263/01, and in 2003 was elaborated the Plan of Management and Development of Protected Area El Doradillo.

The importance of this place is that it is considered the best place for contemplation of whales within a framework of respect for the species and the environment. Thousands of tourists pass every year for this wonderful place between June and October when the largest marine mammals approach the southern shores to mate and nurse their young.

Thnaks to the appearance of the coast it is possible to observe cetaceans just a few meters away being able to admire the grandeur of themselves, their movements, the typical V-shaped puffs when they breathe, the blows of fin and tail and mothers are browsing with their calves parallel to the coast. 

Nature and activities in El Doradillo 

This site is immersed in the Patagonian steppe landscape with shrubs and the presence of creosote bush and as for the native fauna are guanacos, hares, foxes, skunks and other species typical of semi-desert ecosystem. 

Children and adults enjoy the experience equally.

El Doradillo is also an ideal site for various sports and recreational activities such as trekking, mountain biking, nature photography and bird watching.

El Doradillo Protected Natural Area 

The Doradillo is guarded by agents who enforce the rules that tend to the preservation and care of the place, as well as raise awareness, inform and assist visitors.
