Caviahue - Copahue: places to enjoy winter and summer See map

In winter and summer you can have as an alternative of health, welfare and recreation to the Baths of Caviahue-Copahue, an area surrounded by lagoons and sludge with therapeutic and healing properties, with sulphurous and rich waters in minerals.

Both Caviahue and Copahue are as resting and recreational places with outdoor and pure mountain range activities. The immensity of the mountains and the snow-capped volcano, form the ideal framework in which to find peace and regain energy.

Caviahue combines the volcano Copahue with araucaria forests, lakes, plains, basalts terraces and high meadows.

This place, internationally renowned, offers in winter the particularity of combining hydrotherapy, physical training (in the center of sports performance) and winter sports. The latters in the Caviahue ski resort, over the slope of the volcano Copahue, which provides the possibility to enjoy 4 to 5 months of skiing.

In summer the range of activities is very broad allowing you to choose one option that most like the tourist and that suits his needs and possibilities. These may include:

  • Trekking, hiking tours in several areas of meadows, volcanic sand and stony, with multicolored rocks and araucaria forests. It is also made the ascent to the volcano Copahue to enjoy its big laggon, and you can tour the ancient forests, unique in the world such as in the way to the Escondida waterfall.
  • Mountain bike/cycling, descents of over 1000 meters of altitude by a forest of ancient araucarias, streams and waterfalls.
  • Horseback Riding, trail riding on Mapuche lands discovering its culture and customs. In addition, you visit waterfalls and alluring sceneries that nature provides, with the option of spending the night in the mountains. 
  • Ascents, this activity can be done on foot or horseback, always with a guide who knows the place. Youe will visit the volcano Copahue, Mount Negro and Pirámide. 
  • Canoeing, it can be performed at different gaps offered by the park, including Lake Caviahue. 
  • Agrotourism, you will visit the Riscos Bayos, where there are rocks formed from the deposition of ejecta from the volcano and you take a tour by a farm operated with rabbit and a variety of strawberry production. 
  • Other activities include water sports, fishing, hunting, bird watching, ethno-tourism, ecotourism and photographic safaris.

Both for lovers of good scenery as for amateur photographers there are places of flora and fauna watching, as the Escondida waterfall where you can see gulls, lapwings, finches, thrush, etc. Elsewhere in the Park you can observe condors, black-necked swans, southern flamingos, ibises, caburé, cachaña, etc.

Caviahue has a Sports Performance Center associated with the Thermal Rehabilitation (CEARART) who specializes in assessment, diagnosis, research and sports training. It offers a complete range of medical services (sports, physiatrists, thermal), sports assistance, physical activity and fisiokinéticas, a rehabilitation and training gym for sedentary adults or young people seeking entertainment.

Copahue hot springs are known for their services, including:

  • Kinesiology
  • Massotherapy
  • Whirlpool
  • Dermatology
  • Gym
  • Mud therapy
  • Bathrooms in outdoor ponds, among others. 

The water, mud and algae thermal, by its mineral properties are used as adjunctive therapy to various treatments, prescribed only by medical professionals. Including to treat conditions such as osteo arthritis, arthritis, rheumatism or skin diseases, skin conditions related to such as acne, psoriasis, ulcers, etc. It is also used with cosmiatra and aesthetic purposes and to treat respiratory ailments such as bronchitis.

On the other hand, the combination of thermal therapy with antioxidants and detoxifyings, with the thermal activities and climate contribute to the recovery of energy and relaxation. There are healing waters for baths (eg. Sulphurous water, ferruginous and green water) and drinkable water, recognized for its digestive and energizing effects (eg. Water mate, Copahue water, lemon water and ferruginous water).

In fishing season Caviahue is an area where you can practice this sport in a number of gaps as:

  • Trolope lagoon
  • Escorial lagoon
  • Larga lagoon
  • Achacosa lagoon
  • El Rincón lagoon
  • Hualcupén lagoon
  • Hualcupen stream
  • Escondida lagoon

In these environments are not given copies of large size, typical of larger and mighty rivers and lakes, but Caviahue overcompensate with abundance of size, where you can get a regular day to catch about 40 copies that haunt and exceed a kilogram weight. In all these environments you must release all copies of trout that are caught and you must use barbless hooks.
