Diving in Las Grutas: a clear experience See map

This adventure can be done at all times of the year, taking into account the water temperature. In September, October and November the average temperature of the water ranges from 13º C and 15º C and in summer between 22° C and 25º C.

In the spring and until late summer the appeal is more intense, because it begins the moment the bloom of algae, that is the period of breeding and rearing of different species and the eye sight is majestic.

Visibility depends largely on the wind, when they are from northwest the visibility is greater while with strong winds from the south-southwest quadrant you can not perform the activity. It should be noted that prevailing winds come from the west and northwest. The visibility varies according to months between 2 and 12 meters. The months of visibility corresponding to the autumn/winter. In spring and until late summer visibility is reduced but, as mentioned earlier, is the most attractive time to do it.

San Antonio Bay

It is the most chosen place for their characteristics of clear warm waters. There are several places around to practice this activity:

Underwater Park Las Grutas. It is a natural rock formation, stretching over 100 meters of caves and slabs parallel to the coastline. Here underwater baptisms are performed.

Orengo Beach. On the coast road, particularly suitable for sport divers, brevet or experts. The tours consist of dives between 10 and 15 meters deep.

Los Mejillones Island. It is a place visited becuase of its large concentration of flora and fauna. The bank of clams as well as the overseas port are frequented by experienced divers.

Apnea Diving. This form of diving is carried out without air supply, i.e. with snorkel. This area is ideal for carrying out the same because of the environmental, space shallow intertidal to mid-tide and a variety of underwater life in it.

San Antonio Oeste has a group of professional divers, who perform various activities throughout the year.

  • Removing Seafood (controlled by the Institute of Marine Biology) 
  • Background removal, inspection of underwater propeller, hull and rudder, as well as the maintenance of docks.
  • Guided tours for groups of tourists and sportsmen. 

In all cases, it is done with the Coast Guard of Argentina empowerment who is the the one that govern and control regulations about the activity.
